Ryan first developed a passion for representing individuals and families who suffered an injury as a result of wrongdoing by others while he was in law school and working at a prominent personal injury firm in his hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania. Ryan left Dechert LLP to focus exclusively on representing critically injured clients. Ryan has devoted the past 15+ years fighting to give a voice to children, families, and individuals rendered powerless by the misconduct of large institutions and corporations. He co-founded VSCP LAW to continue that fight.
Before becoming a lawyer, Ryan had a distinguished academic career that included top honors at two of Pennsylvania’s leading public universities. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with a Civil Litigation Certificate that included trial and appellate moot court awards. At Pitt Law, Ryan served on the Editorial Board of the Pittsburgh Law Review, the top journal at the school and one of the most well-regarded journals in the country, as the Senior Articles Editor. Ryan attended Pitt Law on an academic excellence scholarship and also earned prestigious CALI award honors with the highest grade in multiple legal subject matters. Ryan earned his undergraduate degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Schreyer Honors College, graduating summa cum laude. He attended Penn State on an academic excellence scholarship and was selected into the Phi Beta Kappa Academic Honors Society. During his college years, Ryan interned in Washington, D.C. in the United States House of Representatives. Ryan also earned the J. Wood Platt Caddie Scholarship each and every year of college and law school, and was named the Pennsylvania Caddie of the year in 2003 for being the top academic achieving caddie scholar in Pennsylvania.
Since 2012, Ryan has consistently been recognized by his peers and selected to Pennsylvania Super Lawyer or Rising Star. Ryan has deep connections to all four corners of Pennsylvania. He grew up in Scranton, has extensive family roots in Erie, spent his academic years in State College and Pittsburgh, and now calls Philadelphia home. When not advocating for his clients, Ryan enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, coaching multiple youth sports teams for his children, and serving as a board member of the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club. Ryan is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and before the federal courts of the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Pennsylvania and the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Ryan is a member of the Philadelphia Bar Association, the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the American Association for Justice, as well as volunteer organizations serving children, and local philanthropy aimed at investing in the Philadelphia community.
